Uladzimir Arloŭ studied History in Minsk and worked as a teacher, as a journalist and, from 1988 onwards, as a publishing house reader, until he was dismissed for political reasons in 1997. Arloŭ writes poems, historical prose, essays and books on general science topics, as well as contributions for “Radio Svaboda“ (Radio Free Europe). In 2008, he was nominated “European Poet of Freedom” by the city of Danzig. Numerous publications, such as: Tajamnizy polazkaj historyi (“Secrets of the Polozk Story”, 1995), Sny imperatara (“Dreams of the Emperor”, 2001), Slany Hanibala (“Elephants of Hannibal’s”, Selected Essays, 2005), Parom praz Lamansh (“Ferry over the English Channel”, 2006), and Paustanzy (“The Insurgents”, 2008).
